We’ve been baking in the heat all week, and now we’re done. Friday should be Atlanta’s last day in the 90s this week, according to the latest forecast from Channel 2 Action News.

Saturday’s projected high is 88 degrees, which sounds pretty comfy after several days of record heat with temperatures near 100 degrees. Temperatures are already taking a step back Friday with highs in the low 90s across metro Atlanta.

“It’s still hot today,” Channel 2 meteorologist Brian Monahan said. “I’m not going to get up here and tell you it’s cool. It’s not. It’s still going to be a hot summer afternoon, just not record heat. We’ll go from 98 back on Wednesday and on Thursday to 92 for a high today.”

The average high for this time of year is 89 degrees, and Atlanta should stick pretty close to that this weekend, he said. Along with the lower temperatures, the city will see more clouds in the sky and an increased chance of rain.

“It’s been a pretty dry month of June,” Monahan said. “Certainly for the last week or so, we haven’t seen much in the way of rain for a lot of us. Today, though, were going to see some showers pop up.”

He expects isolated storms to start developing around 1 p.m. on the Westside and spread across the region during the evening commute. Atlanta’s chance of rain is about 40%, according to Channel 2.

Saturday also comes with a 40% chance of rain, mostly for West Georgia, but Monahan said Sunday will be drier and sunnier with a shower only 20% likely.

“A pretty good weekend for us, a cooler weekend for us,” he said. “There will be some storms around, but no washouts for the weekend.”

Atlanta's projected high is 92 degrees Friday.
