FRIDAY’S WEATHER: Mostly dry ahead of weekend rain, increased humidity

Rain will return to North Georgia this weekend, but it shouldn’t prevent anyone from getting outside and enjoying the warm weather.

According to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan, there is a slight 10% chance of a shower Friday afternoon. That chance increases to 30% Saturday and 40% Sunday, but Monahan said it will still be a beautiful weekend with highs in the 80s each day.

“The higher chance of rain this weekend is going to be on Sunday,” he said. “No washouts on Saturday and Sunday, but not as dry as it’s been the last couple of days.”

Friday’s projected high is 80 degrees, and Monahan said Atlanta will have a summerlike quality as humidity increases ahead of the weekend rain. He does not expect much impact from rain Friday as most of the region will stay dry.

“Really, no big weather issues today,” he said. “Just a partly cloudy sky through the afternoon and a warm Friday for you in the forecast. Evening plans look good, with maybe a stray shower through about sunset. After that it should be nice and dry.”

It should stay dry Saturday morning, according to Monahan. He expects showers and storms to begin firing up around 5 p.m. While there could be a rumble of thunder or two, Monahan said no storms will be severe.

The rain will diminish Saturday night, he said, and Sunday will start dry.

“If you are making plans for Sunday, earlier in the day is better,” he said. “Later in the day, we’re going to see more showers and storms develop.”

That same pattern of scattered late-day showers and storms will remain in the forecast through early next week, according to Channel 2. Beyond the weekend, it should stay warm and humid with morning lows in the 60s and afternoon highs in the 80s.

Atlanta's projected high is 80 degrees with a 10% chance of a shower.
