After a tumultuous Thursday that brought heavy rain and storms into North Georgia, the weekend is kicking off on a much drier note.

There is no rain in the forecast Friday, according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan. The same can be said of Saturday and Sunday as sunny spring weather makes its glorious return.

“Nice and calm and quiet as we head into the first week of April,” Monahan said. “Temperatures today are going to be in the 60s.”

The rain Thursday marked a wet end to a wet month for Atlanta. More than 6 inches of rain fell in the city in March, which is about 1.5 inches above average. That includes the 0.65 inches that accumulated during Thursday’s storms.

To start the new month, Atlanta’s projected high is 67 degrees. Monahan is expecting only a few passing clouds to obstruct the sunshine Friday, and a few extra clouds Saturday will mean about eight hours of sunshine.

Sunday is looking really good with about 12 hours of sunshine in the forecast, he said.

“Great for outdoor fun plans. Great for outdoor work plans,” he said. “If you’ve got some things to do around the house to get your yard ready for spring, this is the weekend to do it.”

Allergy sufferers beware, however. Thursday’s rain made a dent in the pollen levels Friday, but Channel 2 meteorologists expect them to rebound quickly. Atlanta Allergy and Asthma recorded 2,041 pollen particles per cubic meter of air Friday, down from 3,801 on Thursday.

The extreme counts, which are considered anything above 1,500, usually end by mid-April, according to Channel 2.

Significant rain does not return to Channel 2′s forecast until early next week. Showers are 80% likely Tuesday, and Monahan said there is a chance for some strong storms.

Atlanta's projected high is 67 degrees.
