Take advantage of the dry weather Friday, because this weekend’s forecast is looking pretty wet for North Georgia.
A cold front arriving Saturday morning will bring widespread rain to the region, and more showers are in the forecast Easter Sunday, according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Eboni Deon. There will be some opportunity to celebrate outdoors Sunday, but Deon said it would be wise to make a contingency plan in case of raindrops.
“It’s going to be wet at times, but at least for sunrise services, I think we’ll start off the day on the dry side,” she said. ”Today, it’s going to be dry start to finish.”
Friday is off to a cool start with lows in the 50s in Atlanta, about 14 degrees lower than Thursday. South of the city, the morning temperatures are up to 20 degrees lower than the day before, according to Channel 2.
“Not too bad, but it’s definitely a lot cooler than we were this time yesterday,” Deon said. “Grab a jacket on your way out the door. Later today, you will not need it. It is going to be bright and beautiful.”
The mostly clear sky is compliments of an area of high pressure building in behind a frontal boundary, she said. Although it won’t hold off the rain for long, it will create the right conditions for sunshine and rising temperatures Friday.
Deon is expecting temperatures to reach the 60s by 10 a.m. and the upper 60s by noon. Friday should be a great day to enjoy lunch al fresco, she said.
“On Saturday, our next cold front is moving in,” Deon said. “That’s going to bring some widespread rain across the area early in the day, were talking about 7 or 8 a.m., and that’s going to last through at least the first half of the day on Saturday.”
Some of the rain Saturday will be heavy at times, she said. After some clearing Saturday evening, Deon expects a dry start to Sunday morning with a low of 57 degrees. Scattered showers are 70% likely by Sunday afternoon, which could put a damper on any egg hunt plans.

“Timing is everything,” Deon said. “We won’t have (rain) around all weekend long, so that is the good news. But keep the umbrella close by, because it is definitely going to get put to use.”
