Eric Young Sr., a former professional baseball player and the Atlanta Braves first base coach, might have initially thought his son would follow in his footsteps but an unexpected pivot has proven to be the perfect pitch.

Young’s son, 15-year-old Dallas, had his life change with one phone call.

“I’ll be honest with you, no thought in my mind about acting until I was nine years old, and they called me,” Dallas told WSBTV. “I was training to be a professional baseball player since three years old. It took me a completely different direction and I’ve loved acting ever since.”

The phone call in question was one his family received about an acting showcase in Houston and ever since then, things have taken off – Dallas has hired an agent, taken acting classes and even made the big decision of moving to Los Angeles with his mom.

While that phone call might have been life changing, one thing that didn’t change was his competitive nature.

“I always wanted to be the best at what I did. So, whether it’s baseball, acting, football, basketball it doesn’t matter,” Dallas said.

Dallas’s acting credits now include TV series such as “The Fosters,” “Cousins for Life,” and one of my personal favorites, “Cobra Kai.”

How does his father feel about his newfound love for acting and the success he’s finding in the field?

“The thing I love about Dallas is he just stays humble,” Eric said. “He knows this is a big role he has with ‘Cobra Kai,’ just trying to perfect his craft. That’s why he’s going to be successful in whatever he touches because he’s always looking to improve.”

Don’t worry though, Dallas hasn’t forgotten about his Atlanta roots – he flies back to Atlanta to hang with dad whenever he’s not auditioning or filming.

Dallas is clearly on the right track when it comes to his acting skills, as last month, he found out he was promoted to a series regular on Netflix’s “Cobra Kai.”

You can catch Dallas in season five of “Cobra Kai” when it premieres on Netflix in September.
