Popular tourist attraction Callaway Gardens said Thursday it has bought The Lodge and Spa at Callaway Gardens.
The LEED-certified building opened in November 2006 and has 149 guest rooms and suites, outdoor fireplaces, a restaurant, a lounge, a pool with a cabana and conference meeting space. The spa — Spa Prunifolia covers 13,000-square-feet.
Gardens officials did not say how much they paid for the accommodations.
Callaway Gardens, which includes a garden, resort, and residential community, is on Pine Mountain about an hour drive from Atlanta. The Lodge and Spa, which was owned by a subsidiary of Noble Investment Group, sit on property outside the Gardens near its golf course.
“This is a historic moment for Callaway Gardens,” William “Bill” R. Doyle III, president and chief executive officer for Callaway Gardens, said in a release.
“Our founder, Cason J. Callaway, built the first hotel rooms in the 1950s to provide Gardens guests a place to stay with after-tax proceeds used to support the Gardens and its endeavors,” Doyle said. “The addition of The Lodge and Spa is a strategic move to further enhance the Gardens’ experience and solidify its future.”
Callaway said it will immediately begin a 10-month renovation of the property, include updates for rooms, public areas, restaurants and the spa.
“Our design goal will bring The Lodge and Spa forward while at the same time maintaining the integrity of the overall Gardens’ experience Cason Callaway envisioned,” Doyle said.
