Buy a Coke at Arbor Place Mall in Douglasville or Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta and you could put a bottle of Dasani in the hands of children at the Boys & Girls Club of Metro Atlanta.
A vending machine in both locations asks customers if they want to donate a bottle of water to the Atlanta organization after they complete their purchase. If the answer is yes, the customer is charged for two products — his purchase and the donation to be delivered by Coca-Cola.
As a bonus, the Atlanta-based beverage giant said it will match that donation with two more bottles of Dasani.
The program, a pilot that will run through May, is the brainchild of Rayanna Perry, a global human resources manager at Coke. Playing on the “Pay It Forward” them, Perry thought “Coke It Forward” could help someone in need.
If the pilot is successful, Coke said it could be expanded to the company’s 100,000 credit card-enabled vending machines.
“We’re just scratching the surface of being able to build consumer connections with our brands and give them an opportunity to join us in giving back,” Perry said in a story on the soda-maker’s Coca-Cola Journey news website.
