The federal government has picked a developer to build a new FBI field office in Atlanta, according to a news release.
Details about the project were scant in the release, but it stated that Virginia developer FD Stonewater has won the contract to build the 151,066-square-foot building and lease it to the law enforcement agency. Construction, at a location not disclosed in the release, will begin in early 2016.
The building is scheduled to open in 2017.

The FBI referred comment to the U.S. General Services Administration, which handles government real estate. A message was not immediately returned.
FD Stonewater will manage the building under a 20-year lease with the U.S. General Services Administration. The contract is valued at $101 million, the release said.
“Our team is thrilled to be awarded this monumental lease,” FD Stonewater executive Claiborne Williams said in the release. “GSA and FBI are going to be great partners in this endeavor and we are truly excited about the opportunity to deliver a new field office which will meet FBI’s mission for the next 20 years and beyond.”
The FBI’s new Atlanta field office will replace the agency’s current home in the Century Center office park near the junction of Clairemont Road and I-85 in DeKalb County.
The Atlanta division is one of 56 field offices in the U.S. The Atlanta office has jurisdiction over the state’s 159 counties, and there are 13 satellite offices across Georgia.
Powers Brown Architecture will design the building and Harvey Cleary Builders will serve as general contractor, the release said.
