So many talented quarterbacks, such as Nick Marshall, Blake Sims and Bo Wallace, left the SEC after last year. Despite the many starting roles still up for grabs, several solid quarterbacks are back this season.
Here are the conference’s top five quarterbacks.
Dak Prescott, Mississippi State (6-2, 230) — He was the only SEC player not named Amari Cooper considered strongly for the Heisman last year. He lost some weapons from 2014, but he can make the players around him better.
Josh Dobbs, Tennessee (6-3, 207) — He started only the last five games a year ago and won four of them, including a bowl game against Iowa. A healthy Dobbs could potentially put Rocky Top back on the map as an elite program.
Jeremy Johnson, Auburn (6-5, 240) — We got only a small sample size from Johnson last year, but a pass-first mentality, as opposed to Nick Marshall's run-first mentality, could improve Auburn's offense. Having receiver Duke Williams on the outside gives Johnson an excellent option.
Kyle Allen, Texas A&M (6-3, 205) — Originally Kenny Hill was supposed to take over after Johnny Football left. That didn't work out, so Allen, a sophomore, is the star of the show after he threw for 1,322 yards and 16 TDs last year.
Brandon Allen, Arkansas (6-3, 216) — We know what Arkansas' running game can do to defenses. Add Allen's 20 TDs passing and the Razorbacks may be a legit contender in the SEC West.
