Today’s need-to-know stories

1. Georgia Tech picks up No. 9 commit

Parker Braun, a 3-star offensive lineman from Texas, committed to the Yellow Jackets over the weekend. It marked Georgia Tech's ninth commitment in the class of 2016 and the program's third on the offensive line.

Braun is a familiar name at Tech. Parker’s brother, Trey, is a guard for the Yellow Jackets.

He chose Georgia Tech over Ohio State and Auburn, among others.

2. 4-star LB has a top 5, includes Georgia Tech, UGA

Leonard Warner, a 4-star linebacker from Snellville, has Georgia Tech in his top 5, according to Rivals.com's Trent Smallwood.

The 6-foot-4, 219-pound linebacker is one of the top prospects in the state for the class of 2017. Per Smallwood, he’s also considering UGA, Duke, Auburn and Alabama.

3. Georgia DB hearing from Yellow Jackets, others

Dreshun Miller is a name not commonly spoken of among recruiting circles, but the 3-star defensive back from Sprayberry is garnering interest from several schools.

Miller, a converted wide receiver, spoke with the AJC over the weekend and says he’s been hearing from Louisville, Michigan and Georgia Tech, among others.

4. Tennessee beat out two ACC programs for 4-star DE

Chidi Okonya, a 4-star defensive end out of Riverdale, committed to Tennessee back in May. He told the AJC over the weekend that his decision ultimately came down to UT, Duke and Clemson.

5. South Carolina edges out Tennessee for this Georgia DE

Cecil Stallings, a 3-star defensive end from Tucker, committed to South Carolina over Tennessee back in July. The 6-foot-5, 250-pound lineman held offers from several other schools, most notably Mississippi State and Georgia Tech.

6. Notable high school performances

Kyle Davis, a 5-star receiver from Archer, hauled in seven receptions for 104 yards … Jake Fromm, a 4-star quarterback from Houston County, threw for 362 yards and three touchdowns … Trevor Lawrence, a 5-star quarterback from Cartersville, threw for 206 yards and four touchdowns … Davis Mills, a 4-star quarterback from Greater Atlanta Christian, threw for 135 yards and two touchdowns
