The start of the Gators’ football season is less than a week away.
How long have you waited to read that sentence?
The “Daily Three” discuss the start of game preparation, a Florida quarterback commit who opened eyes last week, and a huge win for the Gators’ girls soccer team.
Just a reminder: The “Daily Three” is a new feature on the Gator Bytes blog that will include the top three Gators news items you should know for that day. It will be posted to the blog each morning from Monday through Friday.
1. It's game week: Week 1 of the regular season is finally here. The Gators begin their preparation for Saturday's season opener against New Mexico State today. Florida coach Jim McElwain and players are scheduled to speak to the media, and the team might even release its first depth chart of the season today. A depth chart would help answer a lot of questions, specifically who will start on the offensive line. Kickoff isn't here just yet, but it's less than a week away now.
2. Gators QB commit shines: The future of Florida's quarterback position looks bright. 2017 Fort Lauderdale-St. Thomas Aquinas quarterback and Gators commit Jake Allen threw for 259 yards and four touchdowns in front of a national TV audience to lead his team to an impressive 35-3 win over perennial power Miami-Booker T. Washington on Friday. Allen is rated as a four-star prospect by 247Sports, but he could get that final star if he keeps putting together performances like that. (Click here to read how Allen is helping the Gators in recruiting)
3. Gators soccer team gets big win: Florida's girls soccer team earned a huge 3-2 win over top-ranked Florida State on Sunday. The Gators are the only team to beat the Seminoles the last two seasons. Florida State won the NCAA championship last year with a 24-1-1 record, but its only loss came against the Gators.
