The longtime College Gameday host predicted that LSU will defeat the Tennessee Volunteers in the SEC Championship Game and reach the College Football Playoffs.
Coming off an 8-5 season, the Tigers have reloaded in young talent and return some key playmakers, such as Heisman contender Leonard Fournette.
But LSU has some questions at defense and are still evaluating Brandon Harris and Anthony Jennings for the starting quarterback role. But even with these questions looming, Herbstreit chose the Tigers to make the playoffs over Alabama and Auburn, both higher ranked in preseason polls.
Herbstreit said it best, “I believe it’s a year you’ll see teams come off the radar.”
He has the Ohio State Buckeyes, LSU, the Oklahoma Sooners and the Arizona State Sun Devils reaching the playoff.
Ohio State and Oklahoma makes sense, but LSU might be a stretch at this point.
LSU still needs to get through the SEC West, which is no walk in the park. The Tigers travel to Mississippi State, South Carolina, Alabama and Ole Miss. Definitely not a road schedule that screams undefeated.
