Key, one of LSU’s most heralded signees from last year’s recruiting class, is looking to be a force this season for the Tiger’s defense, which is in desperate need of some pass-rushing specialists. Key is a 4-star from the Atlanta area.
"Anything the coaches want me to do, I'm going to work hard to do it well," Key told NOLA.com's Randy Rosetta. "By midseason, I feel like I can be an every-down guy, and when I do it's going to be scary."
LSU’s defensive front wasn’t too scary last season. Usually littered with NFL talent, the lack of production from edge rushers was unlike what Tiger fans are used to.
Not too long ago, the pride of the LSU defense was the defensive line. Before it was “DBU,” LSU was Defensive Line U. Marcus Spears, Glenn Dorsey and Barkevious Mingo are only a few names that can still send shivers down a quarterback’s spine.
Key is preparing himself for the season so he can be the next name on that elite list, and restore the bite in the LSU defensive front. Key is from Hapeville Charter, and he’s famous in recruiting circles for de-committing twice from South Carolina before signing with LSU in February.
