Today’s need-to-know stories
- Georgia Tech on commitment watch for 4-star defensive tackle
Nyles Pinckney, a 4-star defensive tackle out of South Carolina, is scheduled to announce his commitment at 2 p.m., according to Rivals.com's Paul Strelow. The 6-foot-3, 290-pound tackle is considered a strong Clemson lean, and has even suggested that he'll remain in-state to play out his college football career.
- A pair of highly ranked recruits visit Auburn
- Georgia DB reschedules commitment date
Javon Jackson, a 3-star cornerback, told the AJC that he would announce his commitment before Aug. 21, the day of Sandy Creek High School's season-opener.
Though he did narrow down his final schools to South Carolina and Duke — both are still his leaders — he told the AJC that he feels he may have rushed to a decision too soon. Jackson will now likely commit towards the end of the season.
- Ole Miss commit is flirting with SEC program
Chandler Tuitt, a 3-star offensive lineman, has been committed to Ole Miss since July, but he's keeping his ears open.
Though his recruiting has died down a bit he says he continues to hear from Florida fairly often. How interested is Tuitt in the Gators? In my opinion, it's minimal at best. He's a firm commit to the Rebels and it's unlikely that a kid who hasn't even visited the campus once would give it some thought.
- Louisville commit wants FSU offer
If Tabarius Peterson could have it his way, he'd already have an offer from FSU, at least that's what the 3-star defensive end told the AJC.
- Recruiting round-up
Quentavious Monday of Carver High School committed to Tulane.
Juwuan Jones of Lanier High School picked up his first offer from Wisconsin.
Jalen Camp of South Forsyth High School picked up an offer from Mercer University. He committed to Liberty back in June.
- Soundbites and storylines from around the SEC
Remember when Dak Prescott was involved in that spring incident last March? It turns out it was actually much, much worse. According to Sports Illustrated's Pete Thamel, One of the men told Prescott, "I got a bullet with your name on it."
