Herschel would seem to be an easy choice for UGA fans when picking the best college football players from the past 75 years.
How many players are so easily recognizable by one name?
But Herschel Walker’s ability and fame still transcends Georgia and the SEC, more than 30 years after he played for the Bulldogs.
Walker is one of two running backs — joining two-time Heisman Trophy winner Archie Griffin — on the Football Writers Association of America 75th anniversary All-America team, released this morning.
Former UGA kicker Kevin Butler also is on the first team and former cornerback Champ Bailey is a second-team pick.
There are 13 former SEC players on the three teams, including four from Alabama and three from Georgia.
And if you’re wondering about Bo (another first-name-only-back), he’s on the third team.
