Vanderbilt coach Derek Mason announced on Wednesday that the Commodores will be without sophomore receiver C.J. Duncan, who was lost for the season with a leg injury. Duncan was injured on a special teams drill at the end of Tuesday's practice.
Duncan was a key contributor in the Vanderbilt offense last season as a redshirt freshman, hauling in a team-high four touchdown passes to go with 441 yards on 28 receptions. He was competing for a starting job this season, Mason said.
Duncan’s injury adds to Vanderbilt’s woes. The Commodores suffered a major setback last season following the departure of coach James Franklin, finishing 0-8 in conference play on the way to a 3-9 record.
Vanderbilt’s quest to rebuild its program begins Sept. 3 with a Thursday night matchup against Western Kentucky in Nashville. The Commodores’ SEC opener is the following weekend when they host Georgia on Sept. 12.
