Former Alabama quarterback Greg McElroy will join the SEC Network’s “SEC Nation” booth as an analyst for the traveling pregame show, ESPN announced on Wednesday.

McElroy is known for leading Alabama to the 2009 national championship. He quarterbacked the Crimson Tide from 2007-10, completing 66.3 percent of his passes for 5,691 yards and 39 touchdowns to 10 interceptions. He finished with a 24-3 record as a starter.

He was picked by the New York Jets in the seventh round of the 2011 NFL Draft, but appeared in just two games in three seasons. He retired after last year, when he was a member of the Cincinnati Bengals practice squad.

After his NFL career, he joined the SEC Network as an analyst beginning in 2014. McElroy will have some big shoes to fill on “SEC Nation”, as he replaces Florida great Tim Tebow, winner of two national championships and a Heisman Trophy award. Tebow signed with the Philadelphia Eagles in April.
