Davion Curtis, a 3-star receiver Texas, will announce his commitment on Monday in the same way that he’s communicated all along with his leading schools: via phone.

That’s right: Curtis, who holds 14 offers, will decide between Kansas State, Oregon State and UGA on Monday, despite not having visited either school — although he plans on visiting UGA in September.

But that hasn’t stopped him from making them his finalists.

In a conversation with the AJC on late Sunday night, Curtis says he’s developed a great relationship with UGA receivers coach Bryan McClendon. Curtis says the coaching staff has raved about his speed and ability to get in and out of his breaks, which could lead to potential playing time as a freshman.

He’s also the only receiver UGA is recruiting from the state of Texas.

“I’ve gotten to talk to Coach McClendon and he’s a very down-to-earth coach,” Curtis told the AJC. “He said I would get to play my freshman year if I just go out there and do what I need to do. I was pretty excited about that.”

Curtis’ cousin, Charles Will, echoed those same sentiments, and says McClendon has been in contact with the 5-foot-11, 180-pounder more often than any other school.

“It’s every day,” Will told the AJC. “How’s your mom doing, how’s your dad doing?”.

Will has been heavily involved in Curtis’ recruiting process and says that each program would like to mold him into a deep-threat receiver given his speed.

“You look at Kansas State, they had Tyler Lockett … they’ve always had that deep threat,” Will told the AJC. “They see him fitting that role, and so do Oregon State and UGA.”

However, Will says the lure of playing in the SEC hasn’t been lost on his cousin.

“The SEC is a big influence,” Will said. “They play Alabama, they play Florida, they play Georgia Tech.”

When asked about which school Curtis may be leaning towards, Will said it’ll all depend on where he feels most comfortable.

And then he paused.

“But the SEC is very, very, very … It’ll be great to play in the SEC. There you go,” Will said jokingly.

Curtis is expected to announce his decision tomorrow between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m.
