Jordan Smith (AJC)

Jordan Smith is one of UGA's top targets at outside linebacker, but there's one problem. He doesn't want to play linebacker in college.

Smith, a 4-star defensive end from Lithonia High School, is set to announce his commitment this Wednesday at 2 p.m. The finalists are UGA, Clemson, Florida and South Carolina, Smith told the AJC.

The 6-foot-5, 220-pounder recently spoke with the AJC, and he named South Carolina his leader because the school is recruiting him as a defensive end.

With there being only three days left until his announcement, is there anything the three other schools can do to pass South Carolina for his No. 1 spot?

“I don’t know, honestly,” Smith said.

He took an unofficial visit to South Carolina this past Friday for its cookout recruiting event. Smith said he got to hang out with some of the players, but he did not get to speak with coach Steve Spurrier or any of the coordinators.

Before he makes his big announcement, what’s he looking for in a school?

“I’m just looking for the place that fits me best,” he said.
