Jordan Smith wants to play defensive end in college.
Smith, a 4-star defensive end from Lithonia High School, told the AJC why South Carolina leads over UGA.
“Georgia wants me to play outside linebacker and South Carolina wants me to play defensive end, as opposed to linebacker,” he said.
The 6-foot-5, 220-pounder announced on Twitter this past Friday that he will be committing in the “next 1-3 weeks.” That could be bad news for UGA.
Smith says he wants to commit while he’s on campus of the school of his choice. Besides this past week’s visit to UGA’s Dawg Night, the only other school he has been to this summer is South Carolina. He’s going back there this week.
“I am going to the South Carolina cookout on Friday and possibly Tennessee’s (Orange Carpet recruiting event) on Saturday. . . . When I commit, it will probably be at the place I choose.”
One of Smith's best friends is Archer wide receiver Kyle Davis. Davis, who is a former South Carolina commit, hasn't told Smith much about the Gamecocks.
“He hasn’t told me much about his commitment,” Smith said. “We usually just talk about other schools that we like and schools that we like that are similar. We would love to play on the same team, but if our hearts are in different places, we are still going to be boys.”
Even though the Gamecocks lead for Smith, his recruitment won’t be over when he decides to verbally commit.
“Georgia is one of my favorite schools, so they still have a chance. My recruitment won’t be closed when I commit. I am still going to take my official visits.”
