To mix things up, I thought I’d do a look-ahead to Georgia State’s August camp in a different format, A-to-Z:

Harden, Donovan.

Along with quarterback Nick Arbuckle, Donovan Harden was the breakout star of the offense last year with 60 receptions for 885 yards and seven touchdowns, all team highs.

He did all that despite playing with a shoulder injury as a result of unflagged horse collar tackle two-thirds of the way through the season. He was horse-collared again late in the year and eventually had to have surgery on the shoulder.

He should be good to go for the August camp.

Harden was a bit of a mystery coming into the season. He started at Illinois State, where Luke Huard was the offensive coordinator before joining Georgia State as quarterbacks coach. There, he played in 23 games with 52 receptions for more than 660 yards and seven touchdowns.

He sat out the 2013 season at Georgia State, per the transfer rules.

He started slowly last year with just four receptions in his first two games.

Then, he started to get going with six catches for 90 yards against Air Force and seven for 64 against Washington.

But then things started slowing down again with seven catches total in the games against Louisiana-Lafayette and Arkansas State.

Then, Harden and quarterback Nick Arbuckle, hooking up for 10 receptions for 132 yards against South Alabama, and 11 receptions for a school-record 186 yards and a school-record four touchdowns against Georgia Southern.

So, all of Harden’s seven touchdowns came in three games. He didn’t catch a touchdown pass in the remaining nine, which seems odd, but it is what it is.

Harden, Robert Davis, Glenn Smith, Todd Boyd and UAB transfer Nyiakki Height should combine to form the best group of wide receivers in the Sun Belt Conference this year. Actually, scratch that, it could be argued this group could probably play for a team in one of the Big Six Conferences.
