In-state UGA target hits pause button on commitment

Sandy Creek's Chandler Tuitt became a lot more valuable to UGA this month when the Bulldogs lost a commitment from one of the nation's top offensive lineman in E.J. Price.

The 6-foot-4, 289-pounder told the AJC last week he was expecting to commit this week, but he's hit the pause button on that decision. The reason? He just needs more time.

“It is a close race between all five schools,” he said.

Those five schools are Florida, Georgia, Ole Miss, South Carolina and Tennessee.

The rising senior was asked where UGA stands and Tuitt shared something that's unique for a recruit still waffling over a life-changing decision. It was a recent conversation he had with offensive line coach Rob Sale.

“Coach Sale told me something that I really respect,” Tuitt said. “He told me that no matter where you choose I’m still going to recruit you and that kinda put a smile on my face.”

Tuitt is a three-star prospect on the 247sports rankings composite. He’s rated the No. 14 offensive guard in the nation and the No. 31 prospect in Georgia for 2016. He told the AJC earlier this month that Sale feels he might be able to play guard or tackle on Saturdays.

“They said that I am what they are looking for,” Tuitt said. “I played guard and tackle when I was at their 7-on-7 camp. He said if I can keep my feet moving and get very good with my hands I can be a player at either guard or tackle.”

According to the pundits, he appears to be a heavy lean to Ole Miss. He told 247sports's David Johnson that a couple of Sandy Creek alumni are at Ole Miss and he also has family in Mississippi.

He aims to pursue a business degree and also study art in college. He’s a see-it and draw-it type of sketch artist. He hasn’t gotten to three-dimensional models yet.

Tuitt endured three concussions during his freshman season, but has been able to keep those in line with good practice habits and also by wearing a protective padded sleeve over his helmet in practices and in summer camp drills.

He wasn’t sure when he would make his decision at this time.
