Three former Georgia Tech football signees have taken different paths in junior college:
The status of running back Travis Custis for this season at Hutchinson junior college is unknown. He was suspended from the team for a violation of team rules this spring. "I'm not really sure what Custis is going to do," Hutchinson coach Rion Rhoades told the AJC. "He wasn't with us in the spring, and I haven't heard a whole lot from him. So I'm not sure what his plans are. He was planning on coming back because he has one semester left to finish his degree. I think a whole lot of people will be interested to see what he does his sophomore year. So hopefully he will get back on track." After becoming a hometown hero for leading Lovejoy High School to back-to-back appearances in the state championship game, Custis signed with Tech in 2013 but was later declared academically ineligible. He enrolled at Hutchinson before last season, rushing for 846 yards and eight touchdowns. He has sparked interest from Arkansas and Southern Cal, among others.
Former Tech receiver Anthony Autry of Norcross has signed with a NCAA D2 school, Texas A&M at Kingsville. Autry played at Hutchinson this past season and had the talent to play at a bigger school, but was working on his grades. He was dismissed from Tech last summer after violating the school's code of conduct.
Autry's little brother, Myles Autry, was the first Tech recruit to commit to the Yellow Jackets on signing day in front of ESPN cameras. The speedy tailback and Tech mutually agreed to part ways last summer before he was scheduled to report. After a brief stint at a local prep school, Autry enrolled in classes at Hutchinson this past spring. However, he later returned to Atlanta due to undisclosed issues with his high school transcript. "Hopefully, at some point, if he can get those things resolved, maybe he could get back out here with us," Rhoades said.
