Garrett Rigby of Tucker High School earned an offer at Georgia Tech camp on Sunday, and he committed on the spot.
Rigby is a 3-star safety and rated as the state’s No. 157 overall prospect. He picked the Yellow Jackets among his 16 offers, which included North Carolina, Illinois, Iowa and Iowa State. He was also being recruited by Ivy League schools such as Harvard, Yale and Princeton.
“I think it’s a good fit,” Tucker coach Bryan Lamar told the AJC. “It was one of those situations where they had been evaluating him, and they wanted to see what he could do in camp. He’s a real smart kid. He’s a high-academic kid, and he wanted to get into engineering.
“It’s a good fit or both sides. Georgia Tech has a top 25 program, has one of the best engineering schools, and it’s close to home. It’s a good fit.”
Rigby, who has a 3.6 GPA, starts at quarterback for Tucker, and also plays safety. He projects to play safety or corner at Tech.
“He has great hands, and great ball skills,” Lamar said. “He’s extremely intelligent, and he’s a great kid.”
Tech has five commitments for its 2016 class.
