Between the Hawks, the Falcons and festivals like Sweetwater 420 Fest at Centennial Olympic Park, there seems to always be something to do in downtown Atlanta. As this area has grown, the restaurants have certainly come. In fact, some of our favorite spots in all of Atlanta have opened recently in this neighborhood.

There are plenty of places to eat in downtown Atlanta — from burgers to wings, to places to grab a beer or two, and yes, even some healthier options. Here are my picks for places to eat within walking distance of the Georgia Dome and the Georgia World Congress Center (GWCC).

Alma Cocina (191 Peachtree St. NW; 404-968-9662)
I love the unique tequila selections and the on-the-money margaritas, but it's the memorable and unique interpretations of classic Mexican fare that has you wondering how long has downtown had food this tasty.

Der Biergarden (300 MArietta Street NW; 404-521-2728)
Yes it's Atlanta's only downtown German Beer Garden and it really delivers. The brats are killer, the beer is great and the patio makes for tremendous people watching before the game, festival or event.

Max's Brick Oven Pizza (300 Marietta St. NW; 404-974-2941)
Sit out on Marietta Street and eat some superb pie that comes out of a classic Italian brick oven. The meatball subs and fried green tomatoes are as good as you'll find anywhere in the city.

Ted's Montana Grille (133 Luckie St NW; 404-521-9796)
Start with the pickles, throw down an awesome bison burger and close things out with the heated chocolate chip cookie. You can't go wrong. Bar seating beats the wait.

Twin Smokers  (300 Marietta St. NW, Atlanta, Georgia 30313, 300 Marietta St NW; 404-698-4707)
Talk about bourbon and BBQ that has the whole city buzzing. The beautiful thing is they've got nine menu items that are as close to perfection as you can get. True, they run out of meat most nights, but hey, tomorrow you gotta get here earlier.

White Oak Kitchen and Cocktails (270 Peachtree St NE, 404-524-7200)
A little more upscale for sure, but this is a beautiful new restaurant with super fresh, contemporary Southern cuisine with super creative fried chicken — and how about a pastrami on rye….
