Oft-injured running back Keith Marshall works in drills on the first day of spring practice.

Here are a few observations from the open periods of the first day of Georgia’s spring practice:

  • Keith Marshall was practicing with the rest of the running backs.
  • New offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer appeared relaxed with working with the quarterbacks, often squatting while watching them in throwing drills.
  • Jake Ganus, the linebacker who transferred from UAB, is wearing No. 51, and Chuks Amaechi is wearing No. 41. They are among the group who are looking to replace Amarlo Herrera and Ramik Wilson at inside linebacker.
  • Shattle Fenteng, who missed the 2014 season with a shoulder injury, was practicing with the corners.
  • Freshman DE Michael Barnett (shoulder) was in a green jersey.
  • DBs Dominick Sanders, Reggie Wilkerson and Devin Bowman were practicing with the safeties.
  • New WRs coach Brian McClendon was very active while working with his group. New RBs coach Thomas Brown was more subdued working with the RBs.
  • Oft-injured WR Malcolm Mitchell appeared spry while going through drills. He went first in the group, followed by Isaiah McKenzie.
  • Detric Bing-Dukes was practicing with the linebackers.
  • Tim Kimbrough was first in line for the inside linebacker drills.
  • QBs Brice Ramsey and Faton Bauta were throwing together and Jacob Park and Sam Vaughn were paired up during throwing drills. They are looking to replace Hutson Mason as Georgia's starting QB this fall.
