Eyes will be on a few storylines throughout the SEC this spring, including at Alabama, where Jacob Coker appears to be the frontrunner at QB. Here’s a look at five.
Jacob Coker, Alabama: Is 2015 his year? Jameis Winston's backup in 2013 became Blake Sims' backup in 2014. He probably will win the job, but there is competition, including freshman Blake Barnett, who enrolled in January. AL.com points out that no first-year freshman QB has started for Nick Saban at Alabama.
Will Muschamp, Auburn: Readers decided in a poll in this blog, that Muschamp has the second toughest job among new SEC coordinators, behind Georgia's Brian Schottenheimer. He's charged with fixing Auburn's defense, which we all know, was about as stout as a wet paper bag in 2014.
Jim McElwain, Florida: He's already stated he wants to make Georgia a bigger priority when it comes to recruiting, but McElwain has other problems, including at QB, RB and several other positions. Florida coaches don't have much time to win or else (just ask Muschamp and Ron Zook).
Chad Kelly, Ole Miss: He enters the QB race with a big reputation for talent and trouble. Kelly had to leave Clemson and was arrested this winter on a variety of charges. In between, he led East Mississippi Community College to the NJCAA national title. Is he the guy to succeed Bo Wallace?
South Carolina: Pick a spot. On either side of the ball. The Gamecocks woefully underachieved in 2014, leading to a purge and a influx of new talent. There's also a new co-defensive coordinator in Jon Hoke. Starting spots are up for grabs all over the field, including QB and RB.
