Does Clemson have the best uniform in college football? One writer thinks so.. (AP photo)

Forget about Michigan.

Or Alabama.

There’s no Georgia or Notre Dame or Ohio State.

None of those iconic uniforms make Grantland.com’s top 10 of college football’s best uniforms.

Instead, Clemson takes the top honor in the Grantland.com article, written by Andrew Sharp.

Clemson has gone away from wearing purple as much as in the past. (AP photo)

Here’s his reasoning:

"The key to Clemson's dominance in the gear department is that it is working with two dominant colors. You're not just getting a closet full of orange sweat suits, but also a closet full of purple ones. If Clemson only wore orange or only wore purple, it would still be enough to make the top 10. Wearing both makes them No. 1."

Here’s the rest of his Top 10. Beware: Sharp obviously loves orange (and green and purple).

  • 2. Oregon
  • 3. Auburn (His comment: "Auburn is the choice for anyone who loves orange but would prefer to keep it a little more subtle than Clemson.")
  • 4. Florida State
  • 5. Baylor
  • 6. TCU
  • 7. USC (" It's the jumpsuit you can wear to impress your interviewer when you don't make the NFL and it's time to take your talents to Wall Street.")
  • 8. Marshall
  • 9. Texas ("For now … Burnt orange isn't as fun as Clemson or Auburn, but like Marshall green, it's something you can wear for the rest of your life.")
  • 10. West Virginia

Told you he loves orange, purple and green.

Alabama, which is often included on best uniform lists, actually makes the bottom five in this article, with Sharp saying: “You’ll notice this list has no Alabama and no Oklahoma, because no matter how good you are, everyone looks stupid wearing maroon in public.”

That group also includes UCLA, Notre Dame, Missouri and Miami.

Perhaps I’ll put together a best uniform list this spring. I know mine would look a lot different than this one.
