The Yellow Jackets picked up their third commitment in two days when wide receiver Christian Philpott of Tallahassee, Fla., pledged to the ACC school on Sunday night.

“Georgia Tech is close to home,” Philpott told the AJC. “It felt like a family atmosphere. The offense is perfect for what I want to do … Their offense really sets you up as a wide receiver to get open for big plays.

"And then, of course, there's the Georgia Tech education. I want to specialize in web based technologies, I want to start my own Web Hosting Hub, and getting a degree from there would help that."

The 6-foot-3, 200-pound Philpott is rated as a 3-star and the No. 90 overall prospect out of Florida. He said he committed to Georgia Tech over Penn State, Louisville, Wake Forest, and UCF, among 20 offers.

“It wasn’t whether I picked Georgia Tech over anybody,” Philpott said. “I was really waiting on schools but then my perfect school, Georgia Tech, came calling. And it was perfect for me so I took it.”

Philpott is Georgia Tech's first commit at wide receiver. The Yellow Jackets could sign as many as three at that position in this year's class, according to JacketsOnline.com's Kelly Quinlan.

“It just felt like the right time (to commit),” Philpott said. “Georgia Tech was the school for me, so I had to do it.”

Georgia Tech's other two commits from the weekend are Christian Campbell, a 3-star athlete from Ponchatoula, La., who will play quarterback in college, and Trent Sellers, a defensive end from Sandy Creek High School.

Georgia Tech has seven commitments for 2015.
