Storms hit metro Atlanta, Georgia; more possible
Storms bringing strong winds and heavy rain hit metro Atlanta and parts of Georgia on Saturday. And more could come before the city’s busy weekend is over.
Trees were toppled and power was reported out in Upson County, a building was damaged at Robins Air Force Base south of Macon, and flooding hit Peachtree City, according to reports.
Up to three inches of rain fell in some areas, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan said.

The severe weather was enough to delay the start of the March for Social Justice and Women in Atlanta by 30 minutes, to 1:30 p.m.
The weather could kick up again Saturday night. The National Weather Service said “another round of severe weather is possible” into Sunday morning, according to a statement that includes some counties in metro Atlanta.
“Damaging winds, large hail and isolated tornadoes will again pose the main threats.”

And for those thinking of tailgating before the Atlanta-Green Bay NFC Championship game (3 p.m. kickoff) at the Georgia Dome on Sunday, take note. “The threat of severe thunderstorms should have moved east of the forecast area by Sunday afternoon,” the weather service said.
Saturday’s storm damage included:
- damage was reported to a Wal-Mart in Warner Robins. Also, trees were reported down and multiple power outages were reported near Ga. 74 and the west side of Thomaston in Upson County, officials there said;
- flood warnings were issued for creeks in DeKalb (Snapfinger) and Gwinnett (Pew) counties, Channel 2 reported;
