If you have been enjoying those warmer than usual temperatures in metro Atlanta lately, prepare yourself for a noticeable change.

Cooler air moving into the area from the Appalachian area will mean lower temps and some stronger winds.

“Right now, a cold front is moving through,” Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan said Saturday morning.

“It’s going to give us sunshine and clouds today and cooler temperatures.”

Translation: The 90-ish temperatures of the past two days will drop to an expected high of 81 on Saturday. That will continue Sunday, when the expected high is 76.

Winds will pick up, too. Sunday could bring wind gusts of up to 30 mph, Monahan said. And the thermometer could drop into the 40s early Sunday.

“It’s not necessarily a blast of cool air,” Monahan said, “but you’ll notice the difference.”

The cooler weather is not expected to last past midweek, however.

And September ends, it’s interesting to note the contrast from a year ago. There were two days of 90-degree temperatures this month, down from 14 in 2016, according to a Channel 2 graphic.

About 5:15 p.m., the temperature was 81 in Atlanta.
