This may end up being a weekend in which most Georgians stay in their homes and get to know their couch and TV well.
However, the weather won’t be too bad, especially on Saturday.
There’s only a 10% chance of rain, and temperatures will remain in the upper 50s to upper 60s throughout the day, Channel 2 Action News chief meteorologist Glenn Burns said.
“We should have a pretty nice Saturday with partly cloudy skies and temperatures near the 70s,” he said. “Not so bad.”
There is a catch — and it has nothing to do with the fears of catching a certain disease.
It will be muggy and humid thanks to a pipeline of air making its way from the Pacific Ocean into the Southeast, Burns said.
“That’s the kind of air that we’re going to be dealing with: moist and soggy,” he said. “And it’s not going away anytime soon.”
Temps will vary quite a bit across the state, with Blairsville’s high at 57 degrees while LaGrange’s high is at 80. The humidity will only amplify that difference.
Rain will play a bigger factor in Sunday’s forecast, as the chance jumps to 60%. The bulk of the rain will come about lunchtime as an area of low pressure moves through North Georgia, Burns said. Areas north of I-20 will see more rain than the Southside.
A few sprinkles will remain overnight, but the rain chance stays moderately high for the next few days. By next Wednesday, all of metro Atlanta should see about a half-inch of rain, but some areas could see up to 2 inches, Burns said.
