Georgia hasn’t figured out how to hit a good balance recently. When it’s cold, it’s dry. When it’s warm, it’s rainy.

That’s been the story of this winter, but Saturday started off cloudy in the 50s without much rain.

Temperatures are expected to near 70 today, making it a good day for outdoor activities if the rain holds off, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Eboni Deon said.

Parts of Cobb, Cherokee, Bartow and Floyd counties saw light showers early, but they passed quickly, Deon said. Clouds are expected to hang around for most of Saturday and scattered showers are possible, but metro Atlanta shouldn’t see much rain during the day.

That could change Sunday, however, as areas south of Atlanta brace for another weekend of wet weather and possible storms.

“An isolated strong storm can’t be ruled out from LaGrange in Troup County all the way over to Griffin as well as Eatonton, but the rest of North Georgia, just scattered rain showers and maybe a few isolated thunderstorms,” Deon said.

Construction crews in Union City returned electricity to a major intersection late Friday after a dump truck took out a traffic signal and pulled down power lines along Jonesboro Road Friday morning.

One lane was blocked in both directions at the intersection of Shannon Parkway, Union City fire Chief Dennis Moore said, but repairs were completed by midnight.

There’s no major roadwork on Atlanta’s interstates this weekend, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center, but the Atlanta Hawks host the Brooklyn Nets at 7 p.m., which could affect traffic near State Farm Arena.

As storms approach Georgia overnight, remember to set your clocks ahead an hour at 2 a.m. for daylight saving time.
