Power has been restored to a major Union City intersection after a dump truck got caught on power lines Friday afternoon, pulling down traffic signals and causing major delays.

Police shut down one lane of Jonesboro Road in each direction near its intersection with Shannon Parkway for most of the day, but Union City fire Chief Dennis Moore said repairs were completed by midnight.

“They were still tidying up a few last things but it’s back open now,” he said Saturday morning.

Authorities said the truck was traveling east on Jonesboro Road when its bed got caught on the lines. The driver continued, pulling down power poles, traffic signals and street signs.

It’s unclear if the driver of the truck was charged.
