The temperature was at 51 degrees about 5 p.m. Saturday. Enjoy it, because you might not see it that high again in metro Atlanta for several days.

“This is going to be one of the longer, more sustained stretches of cold we’ve seen in awhile across North Georgia,” Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan said.

“The first several days in January are going to be very cold.”

It could be after Jan. 7 before Atlanta gets back above 50 degrees, Monahan said in a Twitter post.

Saturday’s forecast high was 51, and the average is 52 for this date.

The cold weather will be felt New Year’s Eve. The temperature should be around 30 when 2018 checks in at 12 a.m.

New Year’s Day is forecast to be the coldest in Atlanta since 2002, when the low was at 22 degrees, according to Channel 2 meteorologist Katie Walls. Monday’s expected low is now projected at 23.

The five-day weather forecast for metro Atlanta shows lows in the teens and 20s.
