Get ready, metro Atlanta. A burst of wet and cold weather is near.

“The coldest air of the season is going to be here” this weekend, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan said Saturday morning.

After a midday high in the 60s, a cold front will start moving into the area.

“The temperature is going to collapse as a cold front comes through,” Monahan said.

By 7 p.m. Saturday, the temperature should be around 47 degrees. And there’s a 90 percent chance of rain to accompany that.

But no severe weather is expected, just showers and perhaps downpours.

Morning temperatures could be in the 30s Sunday with a high of 52 expected.

And get this: There will be “widespread frost and freeze conditions” Monday morning across metro Atlanta, Monahan said.

About 4:30 p.m. Saturday, the temperature in Atlanta was 57.

Cool temps and rain possible Saturday afternoon
