Wind gusts of up to 30 mph were felt Saturday afternoon in metro Atlanta, and a heavy storm could hit in North Georgia in the evening.

"While this will weaken some as it moves toward North Georgia, we have the potential for an isolated strong to severe storm in the North Georgia mountains," Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan said.

A fast-moving cold front should weaken as it moves into metro Atlanta by about 8 p.m., and it’ll clear by late Saturday.

Saturday’s high is expected to reach 70 after Friday’s high of 56, a record for May 5.

“Temperatures are running a little cool for this time of year,” Monahan said.

Sunday morning should be cool, with temperature in the 40s and 50s before a forecast high of 70.

According to Monahan, “It’s going to stay chilly through the weekend.”

About 5 p.m., the temps were at 71 in Atlanta, 73 in Griffin and 51 in Blairsville.

Cool start to your Saturday afternoon
