Several thunderstorms passed through the metro Atlanta area Monday, with some bringing strong winds and frequent lightning.
There were multiple reports of downed trees in Cherokee County, Channel 2 Action News reported. Some trees were reported down in Atlanta, including a large one across Ralph David Abernathy Boulevard between Lawton and Culberson Street, the station said.
Standing water was reported causing traffic problems at several locations around metro Atlanta. The two right lanes of I-285 near the East Ponce de Leon Avenue exit were temporarily impassable due to water, as were the two right lanes of I-75/85 southbound north of Highway 166, WSB Radio reported. Traffic was backed up to Spaghetti Junction as a result of the standing water on I-285.
Heavy rain, scattered flooding and downed trees were reported in parts of Clarke County.
Flash flood warnings were in effect in Morgan and Greene counties until 11:30 and 11:45 p.m., respectively.
Severe thunderstorm warnings for Barrow, Cobb, Fulton and Jackson counties had all expired by 6:30 p.m. Fulton was also included in earlier severe thunderstorm warnings, as were Cherokee, Forsyth and Hall.
Georgia Power reported about 5,000 customers statewide without power around 10:30 p.m.

Channel 2 meteorologist Brad Nitz said periods of scattered showers and storms will continue through the night, and sunny weather will be back by the middle of the week.
