There are all kinds of ways to make an iPhone run better, from deleting files from a phone with low memory to clearing temporary Internet files to doing a fresh restore on a sluggish device. But the quickest way to give an iPhone a sudden speed boost comes from tech blogger and Apple expert Marc Forrest, who posted a tip this month that’s been making the rounds.

He suggests getting past the lock screen, then holding down the iPhone power button until the “Slide to power off” screen comes up. Once that’s on screen, hold the home button until the screen resets, about four or five seconds. The process clears the phone’s RAM (random access memory) and you may notice a significant increase in speed, especially if you’ve been running lots of apps on your iPhone. The trick should work with other iOS devices such as iPads and the iPod Touch.
