Uber to ditch Google Wallet for Android Pay
Starting next week, Uber will transition to Android Pay as its preferred in-app payment platform on Android smartphones. Earlier this year, Google repurposed Wallet to hand peer-to-peer payments and little else, so Uber was forced to make the switch to maintain convenience for customers. The change should be implemented by May 9.
Women leaders in tech band together to create more inclusivity
Eight well-known women in tech (including former Reddit CEO Ellen Pao) are joining forces with a new nonprofit initiative to diversify the tech community. Project Include's goal is to help tech companies become more inclusive by tracking their hiring practices and providing resources like an online forum for tech pros to share their ideas on increasing representation in the workplace.
Apple loses trademark suit in China
Apple found itself on the losing side of a trademark suit it filed against Xintong Tiandi Technology, a Bejing-based leather wallet and accessory company that has been selling products branded "IPHONE" for years. Apple filed for the "IPHONE" trademark in 2002, five years before Xintong Tiandi followed, but the Bejing Municipal High People's Court rejected Apple's most recent appeal. The decision followed the logic that because iPhones weren't sold in mainland China until 2009, Apple couldn't prove that the trademark was widely know before 2007, when Xintong Tiandi began using it in 2007.
