A new Gizmodo report says that Facebook workers routinely suppressed news stories of interest to conservative readers from the "trending" news section. Based on interviews with former "news curators," the team also prevented stories about the right-wing CPAC gathering, Rand Paul, and other conservative topics from making the section.
Not so, says Tom Stocky, Facebook VP of search. Stocky took to the social network to strongly refute those claims, saying Facebook "has found no evidence that the anonymous allegations are true."
Could fighting cybercrime be the next skillset for IBM's thinking computer? Big Blue says its security division will team up with eight universities to teach the cloud-based computer the ins and outs of cybersecurity. The goal, Recode says, is to create a Watson-powered service that's always up to speed on the latest security threats and how to manage them.
It was a lousy first quarter for sales of PCs, laptops and tablet sales. Sales fell 13 percent from the same period a year ago, reaching the lowest volume wince the second quarter of 2011, according to Venture Beat.
While Apple is still the leader in device shipments, the company saw its unit volume fall 17 percent to 14 million. The tablet market got punched too: falling 15 percent to less than 39 million units. Maybe that's because we all already have an iPad, and who really needs another one?
