Lightspeed Systems, Inc. is shifting its remaining operations and nearly all employees to Austin to expand its headquarters here, away from its original home in Bakersfield, California.
The company said it currently has 29 employees in Austin and 80 in Bakersfield, but will shift operations and employees, offering positions in Texas with a goal of completing that transition by the end of the year. Some employees may remain in Bakersfield and work remotely, but the California office will close.
The company, which creates web filtering systems as well as device and classroom management tools aimed at the K-12 education market, It works with 5,500 school districts and its products are used in 25,000 schools globally, the company said.
It has been in Austin since 2013. In a press release, president and CEO Brian Thomas said, "Right now, Austin is the most innovative and dynamic place in the country for technology,. Bakersfield was an incredible place to found and build our business, and we will always have ties to the community. But we’re excited about our future in Austin so we can continue growing and achieving new goals.”
