A big part of NXP Semiconductor's annual conference in Austin is their "tech lab." NXP is a European chipmaker that bought Austin-based Freescale Semiconductors last year in a nearly $12-billion deal.

The lab, which occupies most of an entire floor of the JW Marriott in downtown Austin, serves as a giant showcase of how NXP technology is being used to innovate.
