Duo Security, a fast-growing security startup based in Michigan, is opening an Austin office with plans to hire 30 people over the next year.

The company, founded in 2010 in Ann Arbor, helps companies prevent being hacked by protecting workers' accounts and mobile devices with a two-factor authentication system. That means that rather than relying on a password alone, which can be phished or guessed, Duo's service adds a second layer of security to verify a user's identity.

Duo, which is backed by nearly $50 million in venture capital from investors including Google Ventures, has thousands of customers including Facebook, Etsy, Box and Yelp.

The company  is hiring in sales and marketing at its Austin office on East Fifth Street. In addition to its Ann Arbor headquarters, the company has offices in San Francisco and London.

"Austin is the perfect place for Duo's newest office," said AJ Johnson, senior inside sales director. "The technology community here is one of the best in the country. There is a huge amount of smart and energetic talent in Austin and we're looking forward to building out our team here."
