The Austin Technology Council has named tech industry veteran Barbary Brunner as its new CEO.
Brunner previously held leadership roles at Experian, Yahoo, Microsoft and Vivendi Universal, and ran a consulting business for small and mid-sized companies. She also has advised and invested in a number of early stage companies, according to a release announcing her hiring.
Brunner replaces Julie Huls, who stepped down in December after six years in the position.
The ATC was founded in 1992 as the Austin Software Council, and changed its name in 2002. In recent years, after serving as a platform for a broad mix of local tech companies, the Council has focused on C-level executives and training.
The organization has addressed issues including tech industry recruitment challenges, access to venture capital and fostering the region's emerging life sciences sector. It has 250 member companies with more than 60,000 employees.
"As CEO, I look forward to building upon the momentum ATC has gained around understanding how we will attract talent, increase Austin's access to later stage capital, build our life sciences sector and continually evolve our market strategy in these critical years of rapid growth," Brunner said in a statement.
