Why do you run the AJC Peachtree Road Race? “It is an EVENT, not a RACE”. I subscribe to that edict and run every year with my father, Ralph. We have a doughnut from Publix at mile 1 (not offered last year), holy water at mile 2.5, and go to Park Tavern at the end of the race to see friends and family.

Tell us about your first AJC Peachtree Road Race: My dad kind of forced me into it. After a SLOW year one (1988), I was hooked on the tradition. I can tell you for a fact that watermelon tastes sweeter on 4th of July after a 10K.

How many AJC Peachtree Road Races have you run? 22.

What’s a tradition you observe at the AJC Peachtree Road Race? For a four-year stint, we dressed as super heroes (Hulk, Spiderman, Robin, Batman) and had the best time. Kids who were waiting to see a parent would always smile and get excited. We got into the paper every year that we did it and I still have those ‘super’ pictures.

What’s your favorite race T-shirt? My first year. The 1988 year is a light green and still in the original style (before there was a contest to design it. It works well on St Patrick’s Day too!

How many road races do you run in a given year other than the AJC Peachtree Road Race? Seven.
