Georgia State landed the No. 7 spot on SBNation's 2018 Sun Belt football power rankings released Monday.

The Panthers landed in the bottom tier of the Sun Belt Conference along with UL Lafayette, Georgia Southern, Coastal Carolina and Texas State. SB Nation writer Bill Connelly expected the Panthers to take a step back next season after going 7-5 in the first season under coach Shawn Elliott and winning the Panthers’ first bowl game appearance in the Cure Bowl over Western Kentucky, 27-17.

“I’m betting one of these teams breaks out from the pack and ends up bowling,” Connelly said of the Sun Belt’s bottom tier. “All of them except Georgia State could improve, and while Georgia State was a slight step ahead of the pack and could be intriguing in 2019, 2018 could see a backwards step.”

Connelly's full Sun Belt Conference rankings can be read on SB Nation's official website.
