Photo flashback: The Chiefs were Atlanta’s first pro soccer team
Atlanta United has brought soccer back into the spotlight. But Atlanta was pretty passionate about another team long ago too. The Chiefs played from 1967 to 1972 before being sold and renamed the Atlanta Apollos for one season (1973). The Atlanta Chiefs name returned in 1979 when the Colorado franchise moved to Atlanta for three outdoor and two Indoor seasons. The Chiefs folded after the 1981 season. They are gone but not forgotten.
