1. Braves beat Marlins with walk-off

With runners on first and second and two outs, Atlanta Braves' Kurt Suzuki hit a walk-off single to defeat the Miami Marlins 6-5 on Thursday night. The Braves play the second of four games on Friday night at 7:35 p.m. at SunTrust Park.

2. Chiefs defeat Patriots, 42-27

The Kansas City Chiefs dominated the New England Patriots in the second half of Thursday's game at Foxborough's Gillette Stadium. Thursday's game was the first NFL game of the regular season. The Atlanta Falcons open their season at the Chicago Bears on Thursday at 1 p.m.

3. Several football games moved, canceled due to Hurricane Irma

With Hurricane Irma, a Category 5 storm, making its way toward the Atlantic Coast, several football games and other sporting events have been canceled for this weekend. Details are on the AJC.com.

5. Atlanta among 41 cities to possibly host World Cup

The United Bid Committee released a list of cities and stadiums that submitted bids to be host cities in the FIFA World Cup bid and Atlanta was one of them. More on the AJC.com.
