Five necessary-to-know facts about U.S. men's national team goalkeeper Brad Guzan, who will join Atlanta United this summer in its inaugural MLS season. He isn't joining as a Designated Player, which means Atlanta United has one slot remaining, and he won't join until July:

  1. He is from Homer Glen, Ill., but attended college at South Carolina. He was rated as a top-five recruit by Soccer America in high school at Providence Catholic.
  2. He was drafted No. 2 by Chivas USA in 2005. He was named the MLS Goalkeeper of the Year in 2007. He made 79 appearances for Chivas during the regular season.
  3. He earned his first playing time with the U.S. National team in 2006. He has made more than 50 appearances since.
  4. He is by far the most experienced goalkeeper on Atlanta United's roster. He has more than 160 appearances in the Premier League alone.
  5. He is known for being a good distributor with his feet. That's likely one of the things that was attractive about him for Atlanta United manager Gerardo Martino.
